For the dinner table

Today's khutbah reminded us that Allah created us to worship Him, and that He shares stories of past nations in the Quran so we can learn from them. One of those nations was 'Aad. They were very tall and strong, and Allah gave them wealth, children and gardens. Instead of being grateful, they became proud and built huge towers to show off, as if they would live forever. They mocked their prophet, Hud (AS), and went back to worshipping idols. Allah gave them time to turn back, but they refused, so a terrible wind blew for seven nights and eight days and destroyed them. The lesson for us is that everything we have comes from Allah: our health, our money and our successes. If we stay humble and thankful, Allah will raise us up.

  1. What is something Allah has given you that you sometimes forget to thank Him for?
  2. Have you ever felt shy about doing a sunnah in front of friends, and what could help you do it anyway?
  3. Why do you think Allah sent prophets who were human beings instead of angels?
