Five prophetic lessons for success in life
“None of you truly believe in Allah until you love for your brother what you love for yourself.”
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Framing: every prophet was obligated to call his people to the best he knew and warn them of harm
- Advice 1: fear Allah's prohibitions and you will be among the most devout worshippers; sins testify against you
- Advice 2: be content with what Allah allotted and you will be the richest of people; greed only ends in the grave
- Advice 3: be kind to your neighbor and you will be a true believer; honoring neighbors is part of faith
- Advice 4: love for your brother what you love for yourself, like the Muhajirun and Ansar who preferred others over themselves
- Advice 5: lessen laughter and idle amusement, for excessive laughter kills the heart and wastes life
- Close: recap of the five advices, warning about standing before Allah, and du'a
Try this week
Stay completely away from everything Allah and His Messenger prohibited (riba, backbiting, slander, alcohol, unlawful relationships, bid'ah)
Be content with what Allah has given you; stop comparing yourself to others and chasing more dunya
Guard your tongue and weep over your sins rather than taking them lightly
Honor your neighbors: give gifts, speak kind words, and protect their property in their absence
Invite brothers and sisters to your food and go out of your way to help those in hardship
Cut down gatherings and phone time spent on idle talk, joking, and excessive laughter
