The khateeb reminded us that family is a great blessing from Allah and that envy can damage the love we share. He described envy as wishing that someone else would lose a blessing they have. When we admire something in another person or in ourselves, he encouraged us to ask Allah to bless it and to give Allah the credit. He also warned against hatred and hurtful behavior toward one another. Alongside his discussion of the evil eye, he reminded us that nothing happens except by Allah's permission and that we should put our trust in Him.
