For the dinner table

Today we heard how the Prophet Muhammad’s community faced the Battle of Badr while greatly outnumbered. The khutbah reminded us not to measure our worth by numbers or frightening appearances, and to keep our hearts firm instead of despairing. It also showed how the Prophet gave young companion Zaid ibn Thabit a meaningful responsibility when he was too young to fight. We were encouraged to pray for steadfastness, peace, and a world where peace is joined with justice. We can carry this forward by supporting young people, learning from prophetic history, and responding to painful news with faith and compassion.

  1. When have you felt weak because a challenge seemed too big, and what helped you keep going?
  2. How can our family give younger people meaningful responsibilities?
  3. Why should peace include justice?
