Love the Prophet through daily obedience
“The only way to prove your love to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is to follow the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.”
The sermon argues that Rabi' al-Awwal should renew Muslims' love for the Prophet by turning knowledge of his seerah into daily obedience, worship, remembrance, and character.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Frames Rabi' al-Awwal as a time to remember the Prophet by reviving his Sunnah and daily dhikr.
- Argues that studying the Prophet's seerah is necessary for every Muslim and must lead to following, not merely information.
- Uses Quranic examples and reports about Abu Sufyan and al-Najashi to show that recognizing the Prophet's character is insufficient without obedience.
- Contrasts the companions' commitment with treating Sunnah as optional, urging Sunnah prayers, salawat, and prescribed remembrances.
- Explains that the Sunnah clarifies the Quran, especially the practical details of salah.
- Highlights the Prophet's mercy and prayers for his ummah, then calls listeners to embody his akhlaaq with family and community.
- Closes by presenting following the Prophet as evidence of love for Allah and ends with supplication.
In the khateeb's words
“so just to know him is not enough we have to follow him sallallahu alayhi wa sallam”
“The only way to prove your love to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala Is to follow the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Rabi' al-Awwal can inspire us to remember the Prophet and revive his Sunnah in our everyday lives. Following the Sunnah includes regular dhikr, prayer, good manners, and treating people with care. Learning about the Prophet is valuable, but the goal is to follow his character and guidance rather than only gather information. Our love for him becomes meaningful when it appears in our choices and actions. As a family, we can choose one Sunnah to learn, practice, and encourage each other in this month.
- What is one Sunnah you already practice that helps you feel closer to Allah?
- Which good quality of the Prophet would you most like to strengthen in yourself?
- What dhikr could we try to remember together during one part of our day?
