Wealth is a test, not a blessing

“One of the lessons that we learned from the story of Qarun is that wealth is a test.”

The khateeb, at 6:18

In one sentence

The khutbah argues that Muslims must resist wealth- and social-media-driven ambition, use Allah’s gifts to seek the hereafter through ihsan, and embody that excellence in family life and principled community action.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Qarun’s wealth shows that wealth is a test rather than an inherent blessing, so envy means coveting someone else’s test.
  2. Social media and hustle culture distort desires and obscure corruption, while zakah directs wealth toward the poor.
  3. Muslims should use Allah’s gifts to seek the hereafter and practice ihsan in every role, relationship, and workplace.
  4. Parents must nurture faith through dua, lived Islam, and reading the Qur’an with their children.
  5. In responding to oppression and hostility, Muslims should acknowledge wrongdoing without letting anger produce transgression or another extreme.
  6. The khutbah closes by urging Qur’an study, prophetic positivity, calling to good, and communal unity.

The khutbah reminded us that wealth is not automatically a blessing; it is a test and should be used to help others. We should seek the Hereafter through whatever Allah has given us, while doing our best with excellence and kindness. Social media and hustle culture can shape our dreams, so we should protect our hearts and remember that our true hope is in Allah. The khateeb encouraged us to bring positivity, call people toward good, and respond to difficulty without losing balance. Parents were reminded to make dua, read Quran with their children, and live Islam together with them.
