Ibrahim's faith was pure submission to Allah

“We don't have religions; we have one religion, which is the religion of Islam.”

The khateeb, at 16:20

In one sentence

The khutbah argues that Ibrahim's religion was pure monotheistic submission to Allah, Islam, and that Muslims must reject distorted competing claims, hold firmly to Tawheed, and actively learn and practice the faith.

The khutbah in 7 steps

  1. Introduces competing claims about Ibrahim and frames Allah as the ultimate source of truth.
  2. Uses Surah Al-Imran 3:64-69 to establish that Ibrahim predates the Torah and Gospel and was neither Jew nor Christian but a hanif Muslim.
  3. Explains that Ibrahim defended Tawheed and rejected shirk, idolatry, and claims of divine status.
  4. Warns against blending distinct beliefs under the label “Abrahamic religions” without reference to monotheism.
  5. Connects distorted interpretations of Ibrahim’s descendants and land to present-day violence, executions, and ethnic cleansing.
  6. Presents worshipping Allah alone as the proper common ground while urging Muslims not to compromise Aqeedah and Tawheed.
  7. Calls listeners to join masajid and halaqat, study the Quran, history, and religion, and prepare for the Last Day.

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah taught that Ibrahim followed one clear faith: worship Allah alone and submit to Him. The Quran describes him as upright and free from polytheism, so his example should not be used to blur distinct beliefs. We were reminded that distorted religious claims can be used to excuse injustice and harm. Muslims should hold firmly to Tawheed while speaking honestly about shared belief in worshipping one God. We can respond by joining the masjid and halaqahs, reading the Quran, learning our history and religion, and preparing for the Last Day.

  1. What does worshipping Allah alone look like in our daily choices?
  2. Which step, reading Quran, learning history, or joining a halaqah, would you like to try this week?
  3. How can we stand for truth without becoming hopeless or blaming everyone else?
