Follow Abu Bakr’s example to strengthen faith
“We need to have faith in the promises of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
Believers should strengthen faith by emulating Abu Bakr and the early companions in conviction, sacrifice, obedience, humility, and service, while practicing gratitude, tawakkul, repentance, and righteous companionship in daily life.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Introduces the Prophet as guidance and the Companions as exemplary stars.
- Presents Abu Bakr’s immediate conviction in the Prophet’s Night Journey.
- Describes the sacrifices of Abu Bakr’s family during the Hijrah.
- Highlights Abu Bakr’s service, freeing of Bilal, and humility before Allah.
- Connects sincere sacrifice with Allah’s unseen help and blessing across generations.
- Urges righteous companionship, tawakkul, gratitude, repentance, family ties, and remembrance.
- Prays for Palestine, the sick, and the deceased before closing with announcements.
In the khateeb's words
“Each and every door of Jannah will be inviting such a person.”
“Allah promises that I will not waste your efforts. You might see it, your next generation might see it, after that might see it.”
“We need to have faith in the promises of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. We need to have faith in the words of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.”
“Everything is a trial from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. One of the basic beliefs is to believe in the qada and qadr.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbahs reminded us to put faith into action and notice Allah’s blessings. The first khateeb described Abu Bakr’s eagerness to do good and the ways his family helped the Prophet during the migration. He encouraged us to keep making good efforts even when their benefits are not visible yet, and to remain humble. The second khateeb reminded us that faith needs regular care, including the company of people who help us grow closer to Allah. He encouraged gratitude during both ease and difficulty, remembering Allah, and asking Him for help in thanking and worshipping Him.
- Who helps you remember Allah, and what do they do that helps?
- What blessing did you notice today that you usually take for granted?
