Love the Prophet by living his Sunnah

In one sentence

Allah's gift of Prophet Muhammad and his Sunnah should be honored not through words alone but by learning the Quran, embodying mercy, and following his example in daily life.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Explains Surah Aal Imran 3:164 as Allah's great favor of sending the Prophet to recite, purify, and teach.
  2. Highlights Rabi al-Awwal and important events connected with the Prophet's life.
  3. Emphasizes learning the Quran through recitation, understanding, practice, and memorization.
  4. Contrasts speaking about the Sunnah with actually living its mercy in homes, workplaces, businesses, and mosques.
  5. Challenges listeners to show love through prayer, charity, truthfulness, and care for their family's religious life.
  6. Concludes that obedience leads to Paradise and urges action to become greater than words, followed by supplication.

For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that Allah gave us a great gift in sending the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, to teach and guide us. He encouraged us to use Rabi‘ al-Awwal to deepen our connection to the Prophet’s example. Loving that example means letting it shape our actions, including how we pray, give, and treat our families. He compared knowing the Sunnah without practicing it to owning beautiful perfume but leaving it inside the bottle. As a family, we can put what we learn into practice, show mercy to each other, and care for each other’s faith as well as everyday needs.

  1. What is one kind action that could help someone feel the mercy the khateeb talked about?
  2. What could you share with someone else, and what would make that easy or difficult?
