For the dinner table

Imam Jaranow reminded us that the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are a special opportunity for every Muslim, including those who are not going to Hajj. He encouraged us to do good deeds and often say alhamdulillah, Allahu akbar, and la ilaha illallah. With so many distractions and worries competing for our attention, he urged us to bring our hearts back to Allah through remembrance, prayer, and dua. He encouraged fasting, especially on the day of Arafah, while excluding Eid from fasting, and urged households with the means to offer a sacrifice. Together, we can use these days to remember Allah more often and turn our everyday actions toward pleasing Him.

  1. When during your day could you pause to say alhamdulillah, Allahu akbar, or la ilaha illallah?
  2. What pulls your attention away from remembering Allah, and what could help you refocus?
  3. What good deed could we do together during these ten days?
