Pause before acting and trust Allah's timing
“Always remember to be patient and take your time and put your affairs in the hands of Allah Azza wa Jal and you will not regret.”
The khutbah teaches that haste usually causes spiritual, relational, financial, and communal harm, so Muslims should deliberate, verify, and trust Allah’s timing while hastening toward righteous action.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces haste as a human tendency and praises deliberation and modesty through the example of Abdul Qais.
- Uses Musa and Yunus to show how well-intentioned haste can still produce error and hardship.
- Applies the warning to marriage, divorce, judgment, rumors, business, and earning provision.
- Connects tranquility in prayer and persistence in supplication with patience and trust in Allah.
- Distinguishes harmful haste from commendable urgency toward forgiveness, hospitality, repentance, reconciliation, charity, and debt repayment.
- Closes by urging listeners to settle debts and conflicts and praying for suffering Muslims.
In the khateeb's words
“it is sufficient of a person in foolishness to speak from everything he hears right not everything that comes to you you're going to go and spread it”
“always remember to be patient and take your time and put your affairs in the hands of Allah Azza wa Jal and you will not regret”
“if you have some dispute with somebody or rancor in your heart or animosity go and make peace with that person before it's too late”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that rushing often leads to mistakes, hurt feelings, and regret. We should slow down when making important decisions, praying, speaking about others, or dealing with money. Patience does not mean giving up; it means trusting Allah while doing things carefully and correctly. We should still hurry toward good deeds such as repentance, making peace, welcoming guests, giving charity, and repaying debts. Before facing Allah, we should try to clear our debts, heal conflicts, and let go of resentment.
- When has slowing down helped you make a better choice?
- What should you check before sharing a message with others?
- Which good deed can our family hurry to do this week?
