Polish the heart and guard it online

“Put your heart to your chest and feel your heart beating.”

The khateeb, at 9:50

The khutbah in 7 steps

  1. Opening: a topic relevant to everyone, the blessing of the heart
  2. The physical miracle of the heart: 100,000 beats a day, 2,000 gallons of blood, never rests
  3. Hadith of 'consult your heart' and the need for a sound heart
  4. Imam al-Ghazali and the Ihya: the heart as a mirror that must be polished with dhikr
  5. Sins of the limbs and the more dangerous sins of the heart (arrogance, envy, greed)
  6. Practical warnings for the digital age: social media, AI, backbiting online, showing off
  7. Closing duas for firm, purified hearts
Try this week
Take a moment to feel your heartbeat and thank Allah for it
Consult your heart when unsure whether something is right or wrong, what is right brings tranquility, what is wrong brings unease
Polish the heart through regular dhikr and recitation of the Quran
Avoid sins of the limbs (what you watch, hear, say, eat, where you go) and the hidden sins of the heart (arrogance, envy, greed)
Be deliberate about social media and AI use, don't backbite or troll online, don't post to show off, and don't let AI replace real counsel
Guard children from excessive gaming and social media consumption
Sources the khateeb cited
Quran 59:21If the Quran were revealed upon a mountain it would rend asunder, used to show the weight of the Quran the Prophet's heart bore
