True honor comes from Islam

Darul Uloom · Saad

“As Muslims, izzah is found through Al-Islam.”

The khateeb, at 18:57

In one sentence

True honor and dignity (izzah) belong only to Allah, His Messenger, and the believers, so Muslims must root their pride in Islam rather than in worldly idols such as sports teams, celebrities, flags, or social status.

The khutbah in 7 steps

  1. Khutbah opening and the definition of taqwa; posing the question of who one wants to be raised with on the Day of Judgment
  2. Pre-Islamic Quraysh and their idol Al-Uzza: the linguistic link between the idol's name and the human desire for honor, strength, and dignity
  3. Islam's dismantling of false sources of honor: Allah declares that izzah belongs to Him, His Messenger, and the believers, not to idols or tribal prominence
  4. Distinguishing true izzah (from Allah) from ta'azzuz (false pride and arrogance)
  5. Application to modern life and the World Cup: sports fandom can become a hidden source of false pride and arrogance, while knowledge of the Prophet is neglected
  6. The solution: love for the Prophet and extra sujood draw one near to him on the Day of Judgment
  7. Conclusion: the concept of Al-Uzza still lives in worldly attachments; real izzah is for Allah, His Messenger, and the believers, and Muslims must support the deen and its institutions
