The Prophet's Sunnah shapes whole-life excellence

“The Prophet is a prophet for the whole year, for the whole life, for all of humanity.”

The khateeb, at 25:14

The khutbah in 5 steps

  1. The Prophet Muhammad is presented as history's most influential person because of his religious and worldly leadership.
  2. The PETALS framework explains project management, eating and exercise, and time management as prophetic practices.
  3. Advanced knowledge and reading are presented as essential to reviving Muslim intellectual leadership.
  4. Leadership and communication skills are described as prophetic responsibilities for serving the community and sharing Islam.
  5. The khutbah closes by urging daily seerah study, practical implementation, and opposition to oppression through peaceful prophetic action.
Try this week
Read daily, ideally building toward one or two hours, to become a creator rather than only a consumer of knowledge.
Eat moderately, use the one-third guidance, exercise regularly, and maintain physical health.
Sleep earlier, wake earlier, and use both to-do and not-to-do lists to manage time.
Give intentional quality time to parents, spouses, children, and community service.
Take leadership responsibility when something needs improvement in the mosque or neighborhood.
Practice listening, pausing, eye contact, body language, and clear speaking; consider joining the mosque's Toastmasters clubs.
Study the Prophet's seerah every day and apply its lessons throughout the year.

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that the Prophet Muhammad was a complete example for humanity. His sunnah includes prayer and kindness, but also planning carefully, eating moderately, exercising, managing time, seeking knowledge, leading responsibly, and communicating well. We are encouraged to read, care for our health, spend meaningful time with family, and take initiative when our communities need help. The speaker also urged us to study the seerah throughout the year, not only during one month. By practicing these habits, we can serve others and become ambassadors of peace.

  1. What is one habit you could add to your week after hearing about the PETALS of the sunnah?
  2. What is one item you would put on a not-to-do list to protect your time?
  3. Which communication skill, listening, pausing, or speaking clearly, would help you most?
