For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that every day is an opportunity to surrender ourselves to Allah and turn our hearts back to Him. We should be grateful for the blessings we often overlook and remember that this world is temporary; what remains with us are our actions. The khateeb encouraged us to build a living relationship with Allah, trusting that He is near wherever we are. Much of the khutbah focused on guarding our tongues from arguing, backbiting, lying, mockery, and hurtful speech. We should keep trying, never despair, and choose one small practice that makes our words a gift to others.

  1. What is one kind thing you can say to someone today?
  2. How can you tell when your words might hurt someone?
  3. What is one good habit you would like to practice for the rest of your life?
