Eid joy comes through worship and remembrance
“Each Takbeerat that we do Allah SWT rewards.”
The khutbah argues that believers should recognize worship, remembrance, and Eid as sources of real joy now, leading to contentment and eternal happiness with Allah in the Hereafter.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces Eid al-Adha as a time for joy, gratitude, and worship.
- Uses Arafah, Badr, and the return to Makkah to show takbir as an expression of joy.
- Urges listeners to see prayer and remembrance as blessings rather than burdens.
- Contrasts worship and Quranic blessings with worldly wealth and status.
- Turns to eternal happiness through Allah’s pleasure, safety, and Jannah.
- Closes with prayers and an invitation to welcome the new Muslim, Diego.
In the khateeb's words
“Each Takbeerat that we do Allah SWT rewards. This is a form of Dua. This is a form of coming close to Allah SWT.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that Eid and every act of worship are gifts from Allah, so they should bring joy rather than feel like burdens. The khateeb encourages us to make time for Eid, say the takbir, and remember Allah after prayer and while returning to work or family. Salah can be a peaceful pause from our problems and a chance to speak with Allah. Worldly wealth and status are less valuable than the blessing of worship. The greatest happiness is in the Hereafter, where Allah removes bitterness and gives believers safety, contentment, and eternal joy.
- When has prayer felt like a peaceful break from a difficult day?
- What helps you remember Allah after leaving the mosque?
- What is one worldly priority you could place below worship this week?
