For the dinner table

Today's khutbah reminded us that belonging to the Muslim community is a gift that comes with responsibility for one another. Our prayers and other acts of worship need to be accompanied by kind words, good character, and care for people's rights. Making room at the masjid means both sharing physical space and making space in our hearts for patience and understanding. The khateeb described the Prophet's gentle teaching and encouraged us to correct mistakes with compassion while also watching our own behavior. We can practice these lessons by parking considerately, treating volunteers kindly, putting phones away during the khutbah, and greeting people beyond our own circle of friends.
