For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that the Hijrah, the Prophet’s migration from Mecca to Medina, gives us lessons for our own lives. We can make a Hijrah in our hearts by leaving what displeases Allah and choosing what pleases Him. His first lesson was to put faith first and make everyday things, like school, work, and rest, opportunities to serve Allah through our intentions. His second lesson was that worthwhile goals require sacrifice, and we can give some of our time, energy, money, or skills to help others and strengthen the ummah. His third lesson was to choose close friends who remind us of Allah, encourage our faith, and lift us up when we feel down.

  1. What is one everyday activity you could do with an intention to please Allah?
  2. How could we share our time or skills to help someone this week?
  3. What could you say or do to lift up a friend who is having a hard day?
