A pure life gives more than it takes

“We need to make sure that we are giving more than we are taking and it doesn't cause any corruption not within this community nor within another community.”

The khateeb, at 24:57

In one sentence

By reflecting on the bee as described in the Quran and hadith, believers should consume what is pure, strengthen their communities, avoid harming others, give more than they take, and fulfill civic responsibilities.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Introduces believers as people who should listen, think, and ponder Quranic signs.
  2. Explains the bee's divinely guided work, feminine grammatical form, homes, labor, and honey.
  3. Connects the bee's purity to halal income, food, and the acceptance of supplication.
  4. Applies the bee's behavior to friendships, environments, relationships, and avoiding harm.
  5. Contrasts cooperative bee communities with envy and selfish competition.
  6. Urges listeners to vote and encourage others to vote because elections affect children and future generations.

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah used the bee as a picture of a good believer. Bees follow Allah’s guidance, take in what is pure, help their community, and do not damage the flowers they visit. We should earn and eat halal, choose friends who strengthen our faith, and treat people without harm. We should give more than we take, share opportunities instead of becoming jealous, and remember our responsibility to vote and care about the next generation.
