Everyone sins, so do not judge others
“Some people found Allah in the depths of their sins.”
Because everyone sins and only Allah knows each person's full state, Muslims should avoid judging others, repent, remain grateful, make sincere effort, and trust Allah's wisdom.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens with praise, testimony, Quran, and hadith before introducing judgmentalism.
- Explains that everyone sins differently, so no one has authority to condemn others.
- Contrasts finding Allah through hardship and repentance with losing remembrance amid blessings.
- Uses qadar and the womb hadith to distinguish trusting Allah from abandoning human effort.
- Applies the lesson to broken relationships and judgments based on appearance.
- Concludes with prayers for steadfastness and suffering Muslims, followed by community announcements.
In the khateeb's words
“We all sin differently. So not because we sin differently, gives us the authority to judge people. or to be judgmental.”
“Some people found Allah in the depths of their sins.”
“It is the effort that you make. And so therefore, this is what makes the difference.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that every child of Adam sins, but people sin in different ways, so we should not judge others by appearance or by a single mistake. Some people return to Allah through hardship and repentance, while others can lose remembrance while enjoying blessings. We should stay grateful, keep our duties to Allah, and make our human effort while trusting Allah with what follows. When Allah removes a person or opportunity, we can look for wisdom and growth rather than despair. The khutbah closed by asking for steadfastness, a good ending, and relief for suffering Muslims.
- What is one way we can stop ourselves from judging someone too quickly?
- How can blessings sometimes make people forget Allah?
- What effort can you make this week while trusting Allah with the result?
