Live so your absence is regretted
“Oh Allah, enable me to do a righteous deed that you will be pleased with.”
In one sentence
A believer should live so that their worship, gratitude, humility, and care for others make their absence regretted rather than relieving creation from harm.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Begins with exhortations to fear Allah, speak truthfully, and preserve family ties.
- Introduces the hadith contrasting a believer’s relief from worldly hardship with a wicked person’s departure relieving creation.
- Explains that all creation glorifies Allah, using examples of the heavens, birds, thunder, stars, trees, and the hoopoe.
- Uses the ant’s care for its colony to call listeners toward gratitude, community responsibility, preparation, and mutual protection.
- Warns against pride and looking down on others, urging humility, gratitude, and supplication for the misguided and less fortunate.
- Closes by asking listeners what kind of legacy their departure will leave before the congregational prayer.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“the believing servant of Allah when he passed by when he departed when he is leaving this dunya he find relief from the troubles and the hardship of this dunya to the mercy of Allah”
“do we care about our Muslim brothers? do we care about the humanity in general? or was just everyone thinking about himself and that's it?”
“oh Allah enable me to do a righteous deed that you will be pleased with how many righteous deed have you done today”
“when you see somebody misguided make dua Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala guide him or her when you see somebody less force than you ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to provide for him”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah asks us to think about what kind of people we are becoming. The imam reminded us that Allah’s creation glorifies Him, and he used the ant’s care for its colony as an example of responsibility and concern. We should thank Allah for our blessings by doing righteous deeds and helping others. We should also avoid pride, boasting, and looking down on people. The goal is to live so that our presence benefits others and our absence is felt with love.
- What blessing are you thankful for today?
- How could our family help someone this week?
- What would humility look like online or at school?
