For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah invited us to have a passion for compassion by learning from the mercy of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. The khateeb shared examples of his patience with a stranger, his care for a boy grieving his pet bird, and his willingness to listen closely to people. He reminded us that caring starts with getting to know others and paying attention to what they are going through. We can put that care into practice by giving salaam, checking on someone we have not seen, and showing patience with our families when we are tired or stressed. He encouraged us to learn more about the Prophet, practice his example with those closest to us, and support our community in spreading mercy.

  1. What could you say to a friend who is sad about losing a pet?
  2. How can we show someone we are really listening?
