For the dinner table

Today's khutbah was about legacy: what we leave behind after we pass from this world. The imam reminded us that Prophet Ibrahim (AS) asked Allah to be remembered well, and thousands of years later we still make dua for him. He gave six ways to build a good legacy. Do everything sincerely for Allah, find the talent you can use to help others, aim high like asking for Al-Firdaus, and actually work hard instead of just dreaming. He also said to be patient through setbacks and to make lots of dua, because nothing happens without Allah's will. He ended with the story of Imam al-Bukhari, who was forced out of city after city and died by the side of a road on the night of Eid. Today everyone knows and benefits from his book, but nobody remembers the names of the rulers who sent him away.

  1. If people remembered you for one good thing 100 years from now, what would you want it to be?
  2. What's something you're really good at that could help other people?
  3. What's an 'elephant' that sometimes distracts you from things that matter more?
