For the dinner table

Today we learned that sidq means living with real honesty before Allah and people, not only saying true words. Truthfulness helps us repent, resist temptation, keep promises, and bring blessing into work and relationships. The stories of Hudhayfa, Khuzayma, and Ka'b ibn Malik show that sincere honesty can be difficult or humiliating, yet it protects and ultimately saves us. We should practice sidq when we are alone, when we have power, and when honesty costs us an opportunity. Let us teach our children these stories and ask Allah to make our families and community people of truth.

  1. When is it hard to tell the truth, and what could help you choose sidq?
  2. What promise can you keep more carefully this week?
  3. What did Ka'b ibn Malik do when an excuse would have been easier?
