Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

The khateeb focused on a verse we hear at the end of Friday sermons: Allah commands justice, ihsan, and care for relatives, while forbidding immorality, wrongdoing, and transgression. Justice begins with fulfilling our duties to Allah, being honest inside and outside, caring for ourselves, and honoring the rights of everyone around us, even people we dislike. Ihsan means doing worship with excellence and responding to hurt with forgiveness when we have the power to retaliate. Caring for family includes money, but also time, attention, affection, and help at home. Each Friday, we can use the verse as a check-up: reconnect with family, correct an imbalance, leave a wrong, and make tawbah.

  1. What is one responsibility we should balance better this week?
  2. How can we show family love through time or help, not just gifts?
  3. When is forgiving someone an example of ihsan?
