Iman means caring for people in need
“Iman is not just coming to the masjid and salah and sawm; iman is also in how you treat others.”
Muslims must not forsake people who are struggling, but should follow the Prophet and the Companions by compassionately meeting others’ needs for Allah’s sake.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Abu Hanifa notices a struggling neighbor and asks whether he has been forsaken.
- The speaker applies this question to lost youth and people suffering in Gaza.
- The Prophet’s accessibility and Muslim brotherhood require standing with those in need.
- Stories of the Ansari couple and Abu Bakr illustrate selfless hospitality and hidden service.
- Quranic teaching connects sincere care for the poor, orphaned, and captive with genuine faith.
- Listeners are told to find someone in need and fulfill a concrete need this week.
In the khateeb's words
“They need someone To guide them to Islam They need someone To take them with love”
“I'm only going to help If in the future I know There's going to be Some transaction”
“iman is not just coming to the masjid and salah and sawm iman is also in how you treat others”
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah reminded us that faith shows in how we care for people as well as in our prayers and fasting. The khateeb told a story of Abu Hanifa helping a struggling neighbor and urged us to approach young people with love instead of mockery. He described the Prophet as accessible to people and attentive to their needs, and shared examples of the companions serving others generously. He asked us to examine whether we have abandoned people who need us, including the children and families of Gaza, and to help for Allah's sake without seeking a reward from others. This week, we can put that message into practice by checking on someone, visiting a sick person, or helping with an everyday need.
- What helps you feel comfortable asking someone for help?
- What could you do for someone this week without expecting anything back?
- Who could our family check on, and what might we say?
