Adab must be taught at home
“Just like you want your kid to learn Quran you should want your kid to learn adab and it starts at home.”
In one sentence
Adab, beautiful character, manners, and putting everything in its proper place, is foundational to Islam and must be cultivated personally and passed gently to the next generation.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens with gratitude, Jumu'ah etiquette, and the purpose of khutbahs
- Uses the Prophet's transformation of Arabia to identify revelation and character as key causes
- Defines adab as broader than character, encompassing conduct toward Allah, people, creation, and daily settings
- Uses Qur'an, hadith, and scholars to establish adab as more important than accumulating knowledge alone
- Explains how adab is being lost across generations and urges merciful, gentle teaching
- Closes with home-centered practice, prayers for oppressed communities, and the call to prayer
