For the dinner table

Today Imam Bilal told us about one of the hardest days in the Prophet's life (peace be upon him). After years of struggle and a painful boycott, he travelled to Ta'if to call people to Islam, and they threw stones at him until he and Zayd were covered in blood. On the way back, he stopped to pray Fajr and recited the Qur'an, and a group of jinn stopped to listen. They were so amazed that they believed and went to tell their people. The imam said that we often get excited about what the jinn can do, but the jinn were amazed by the Qur'an, so we should listen to it with our hearts and not leave it playing in the background. He also reminded us to do good for Allah and not to get thanks from people, and to use every opportunity Allah gives us, because Allah can always bring others who will. He taught us to ask: 'O Allah, use us and do not replace us.'

  1. The jinn were amazed by the Qur'an. Which surah or ayah amazes you the most, and why?
  2. Can you think of something good you did this week that nobody thanked you for? How does it feel to know Allah saw it?
  3. If Allah gave you one chance this week to help the masjid or someone in our family, what would you want to do?
