Every heir deserves their rightful share
“Donate your share but do not be generous with somebody else's money.”
Because inheritance is an explicit trust from Allah, Muslims must disclose, divide, and protect every heir's share without pressure or delay, and must answer to Allah for any injustice.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces wealth, inheritance, and the human pull toward material security.
- Contrasts pre-Islamic inheritance customs with Islam's fixed and comprehensive rules.
- Warns against hiding estate amounts, withholding minors' shares, and mismanaging guardianship.
- Addresses denying women fair property, divorcing wives to block inheritance, and coercing heirs.
- Insists on prompt division, transparent business valuation, and the right to pursue court remedies.
- Expands the lesson to all wronged people through Quranic warnings and hadiths about accountability.
In the khateeb's words
“the minute the father dies or the mother that money belongs to everyone it does not belong to one person to decide what he's going to do with it”
“if you are that generous and you are fearful for your father donate from you all money donate your share but do not be generous with somebody else's money”
“one bite will not accept your deed for 40 days you might be praying and fasting and making hajj and umrah while you took someone right all this is wasted”
For the dinner table
Allah has given clear inheritance rules because money can bring out greed, hurt, and unfairness. Families should disclose the full estate, identify each person's share promptly, and never pressure women, younger children, or other heirs to surrender what belongs to them. Anyone managing the estate must keep spending transparent, and charitable gifts should come only from one's own share or with everyone's willing permission. The khutbah reminds us that taking another person's property is a serious wrong before Allah, so we should return rights, seek forgiveness, and use lawful means if necessary.
- How could our family make important money decisions fair and transparent?
- Why is it wrong to give away someone else's share, even for a good cause?
- What should someone do when a family member refuses to give them what they are owed?
