The Prophet’s gentleness should shape our conduct
“May Allah have mercy on the servant of Allah who is easy going when he buys.”
In one sentence
The khutbah teaches that Muslims should follow the Prophet’s Quran-shaped gentleness by speaking kindly, controlling anger, forgiving others, and embodying Islam through gracious conduct.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Introduces the Know Your Prophet series and the Quran as the source of the Prophet’s character.
- Explains Quranic commands to pardon, speak kindly, and show gentleness even toward parents, non-Muslims, and Pharaoh.
- Presents Prophetic examples of smiling, patience with Anas, gentleness with children, and forgiveness toward former enemies.
- Distinguishes natural anger from wrongly acting upon anger, especially when personal emotions are involved.
- Suggests anger-management responses including seeking refuge, making wudu, praying, leaving, staying silent, and doing something beneficial.
- Urges listeners to study the Prophet, assume the best, remember shared good, reflect on reward, and be easygoing in transactions.
- Closes by calling Muslims ambassadors of Islam whose speech and character should communicate kindness.
