Worship must shape how we treat others

“Sometimes the clearest test of our character is how we treat someone who cannot offer us anything in return.”

The khateeb, at 15:45

In one sentence

Islam should be a complete way of life in which sincere worship purifies the heart and visibly shapes honest, merciful, humble, and united conduct toward others.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Islam’s daily meaning is measured by how people experience our honesty, mercy, and dependability.

  4. Love for the Prophet means following his example in worship, family life, mercy, and justice.
  5. Guarding speech and online behavior protects dignity and expresses genuine faith.

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that Islam is not only something we say; it should shape our hearts, worship, and daily treatment of people. We should work on pride, jealousy, and showing off by praying, reading Quran with reflection, remembering Allah, and keeping some good deeds private. Our words, at home and online, should protect people’s dignity, and we should be especially respectful toward those who cannot offer us status or benefit. Loving the Prophet means learning his mercy, truthfulness, family care, and justice, then trying to follow them. Even when Muslims disagree about elections or other worldly matters, we should remain fair, united, and concerned for people who are suffering.

  1. What is one quiet good deed you could do this week that nobody else needs to know about?
  2. How can we make our family’s words feel safe when someone makes a mistake?
  3. What can we learn from the Prophet’s kindness at home and toward people with less status?
