For the dinner table

The khutbah teaches that Allah’s mercy surrounds all creation, while a special mercy awaits believers. True mercy means wanting and being able to meet someone’s need, caring about them, and helping fully and at the right time. The Prophet Muhammad is described as a mercy who restored what had been thrown out of balance. We are encouraged to seek Allah’s mercy by showing mercy to ourselves and then to our families and communities. We can live this message by noticing real needs and responding with sincere, capable care.

  1. What does sincere mercy look like in our family?
  2. Whose need could we notice and help this week?
  3. How can we show mercy without expecting anything in return?
