Love Allah by following His guidance
Al-Ittehad · Akraam
“Islam is full submission to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Opening on Surah al-Inshiqaq: all of humanity toils through hardship and will surely meet Allah, so why choose disobedience when guidance saves us from compounded misery
- Point one, follow the guidance Allah gave in the Quran, illustrated by Nuh's son whose own 'better idea' (the mountain) could not save him from destruction
- Islam defined as full submission to Allah even when we don't understand the wisdom, like the prohibition of alcohol
- Point two, follow the Prophet of your time: Surah Aal-Imran 3:31 makes love of Allah a test measured by following the Prophet's sunnah, supported by Ibn Kathir's tafsir
- Point three, practically implementing the Prophet's character: Umar's test of knowing someone (live, travel, do business), Aisha's 'his character was the Quran', and the hadith ranking prayer on time, righteousness to parents, then striving for Allah
- Correcting the order of akhlaq: Allah first, then parents, spouse, children, close family, then the public, not surface-level niceness while the core is broken
- Closing hadith: have taqwa wherever you are, follow a bad deed with a good one, and treat people with the best character; review of all three points
- Final warning: social media is the fitna of our time, addiction, exposure to haram, black spots on the heart, so weigh the harm like alcohol and get off as many platforms as possible
Try this week
Pray each salah on time, immediately when it comes in, letting nothing come in the way
Be extra righteous and obedient to your parents, not merely minimally respectful
Follow a bad deed with a good deed so it is erased, and seek tawbah to cleanse the heart
Interact with everyone with the best of manners, prioritizing Allah, then parents, spouse, children, and close family before the general public
Know your limits with social media and get off as many platforms as possible
Support and spread da'wah and the good word through those who use media beneficially
