For the dinner table

Tonight's khutbah told the story of Mus'ab ibn Umayr, a young man from a wealthy Meccan family who gave up every comfort to follow the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. His own mother imprisoned him and starved him to make him leave Islam, but he escaped and later helped Islam grow in Medina by patiently teaching new Muslims, even winning over a man who came at him with a weapon. At the Battle of Uhud, Mus'ab carried the Muslim banner until both his hands were cut off and he was martyred, dying so poor that there was not even a full burial cloth for him. The khateeb reminded us that people like Mus'ab sacrificed everything so Islam could reach us, and asked us to reflect on whether we truly value our faith.
