Recommit to Allah in Dhul Hijjah
“In these blessed 10 days, be courageous, be strong, recommit to learning about your deen.”
The khutbah calls Muslims to recommit to Allah during the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah by learning and living the Prophet’s teachings, honoring sacrifice, rejecting racism and injustice, and serving humanity courageously.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Reflects on the virtues of the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah and Hajj.
- Honors San Diego mosque martyrs and urges courage without abandoning sensible precautions.
- Encourages gratitude toward parents, teachers, friends, and security guards.
- Connects recent tragedy and humanity’s problems to the need for Islam’s guidance.
- Explains lessons from the Farewell Sermon about taqwa, equality, gender cooperation, and protected rights.
- Calls listeners to fast on Arafah, study the Farewell Sermon, live the Quran and Sunnah, and serve others.
In the khateeb's words
“And so live for Allah, Rabbul Izzah. Live with Allah, Rabbul Izzah. And you will be granted a beautiful ending and a beautiful resurrection.”
“You will never regret being too thankful of a person, being too appreciative of a person. This will not happen.”
“In these blessed 10 days, be courageous, be strong, recommit to learning about your deen, recommit to being fair and just and kind and being a mercy to humanity like Rasulullah, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are a special opportunity to remember Allah, do good, and renew our commitment to Him. He encouraged worship and dua on the day of Arafah, including fasting for those who are able. Remembering the brothers killed in San Diego, he asked us to pray for them, remain courageous while taking precautions, and appreciate the people who care for and protect our communities. Drawing on the Prophet's farewell sermon, he reminded us to reject racial superiority, respect women, and protect innocent people's lives, wealth, and honor. He urged us to keep learning and sharing our faith, letting the Quran and Sunnah shape our hearts and help us become fair, kind, and useful to others.
