Seek Allah’s protection from harmful impulses

“You have to be patient with yourself.”

The khateeb, at 28:55

Shaitan’s influence begins within human impulses, so Muslims must seek Allah’s protection while examining and disciplining anger, jealousy, pride, and other desires through conscious action and worship.

The khutbah in 6 steps

For the dinner table

The khutbah taught that Shaytan’s influence often begins inside us, through anger, jealousy, pride, greed, or other impulses that shape how we act. Seeking Allah’s protection is not only words: we should name the temptation, examine whom our behavior affects, and take practical steps to change it. When prayer or Quran becomes difficult because of distracting thoughts, we can pause, sit, regain focus, and return patiently. The sermon also reminded us to mention Allah’s name in what we do and ask Him for forgiveness, guidance, and a good ending.

  1. What is one feeling you could pause and examine before acting on it?
  2. What helps you regain focus when your mind wanders during prayer?
  3. Where could you remember Allah’s name more intentionally this week?
