Dhul-Hijjah’s first ten days demand devotion
“Any actions you do in these days, whether good or bad, they're multiplied.”
In one sentence
The first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are the most beloved days to Allah, surpassing even the days of Ramadan, so believers must treat them as sacred through fasting, remembrance, and the spirit of sacrifice exemplified by Ibrahim.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Opening praise and introduction of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah as more beloved to Allah than the last ten nights of Ramadan
- Point one: the month is sacred, so deeds (good and bad) are multiplied and sin must be avoided
- Point two: the month is about sacrifice, told through the life and tests of Ibrahim alayhi as-salam
- The lesson of respectful speech between Ibrahim, his father, and Ismail, and how treatment of others returns to you
- The Day of Arafah: Allah's forgiveness of the pilgrims and the freeing of people from hellfire
- Practical prescriptions: fasting on Yawm Arafah and increasing takbir, tahmid, and tahlil
- Closing duas for the congregation, the hujjaj, and the oppressed
