Sincere faith guides every relationship
“We need to hold firmly to the rope of Allah.”
True religious sincerity, or nasiha, means devotion to Allah and His Messenger, principled guidance for leaders, kindness toward fellow believers, and continuing Ramadan’s worship throughout the year.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces the hadith that religion is nasiha and explains nasiha as sincere, pure devotion.
- Defines nasiha toward Allah through belief, obedience, and following divine guidance.
- Defines nasiha toward the Prophet through love, obedience, Sunnah, and honoring all prophets.
- Uses Surah Ali Imran to explain that Muslims are best when they believe in Allah, command good, and forbid evil.
- Explains sincerity toward leaders, scholars, and fellow believers through truthful support, counsel, honesty, and kindness.
- Applies the message to contemporary trials and urges listeners to preserve Ramadan worship and renewed intentions throughout the year.
In the khateeb's words
“you look at them with a righteous eye you speak good to them you smile at them and you are good to them overall”
“we need to hold firmly to the rope of Allah we need to hold firmly to the sunnah of the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam”
“we should find one or two things two or three things and maintain them and preserve them throughout the rest of the year until the next Ramadan”
For the dinner table
This khutbah taught that Islam calls us to nasiha, meaning sincere devotion and care. We show it to Allah by believing in Him and following His guidance, to the Prophet by loving and following his Sunnah, and to leaders and fellow believers through truthfulness, good counsel, and kindness. Being part of the best community is not an automatic privilege; it depends on believing in Allah, encouraging what is right, and resisting wrong. After Ramadan, we should keep one or two acts of worship, generosity, or brotherhood alive throughout the year. The khutbah also reminded us to pray for Muslims facing oppression and to ask Allah to purify our intentions.
- Which Ramadan practice would you most like our family to continue?
- What is one way we can show sincere care to a neighbor or fellow Muslim this week?
- How can our family encourage what is right while still speaking kindly?
- Which believer’s right should we practice more intentionally?
