Arrogance seals the heart and ruins good deeds

For the dinner table

The khutbah teaches that arrogance is more than feeling proud: it means rejecting truth and looking down on people. It can close the heart so that a person hears reminders but does not change, and it can cost them the reward of good deeds through harm done to others. Arrogance can appear in wealth, race, language, appearance, refusing advice, or taking credit for success. We can fight it by honoring people, accepting sincere advice, repenting quickly, choosing better influences, and remembering that we began weak and will return to Allah. Humility brings us closer to Allah and helps us treat others with dignity.
