For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that wealth and children cannot rescue us in the Hereafter; what matters is a pure, healthy heart. The heart is always being pulled between wisdom and God-consciousness on one side and harmful desires on the other. If wishful thinking grows into greed, it can destroy our peace and leave us dissatisfied, so we should ask Allah for guidance and guard our inner life. The Prophet’s guidance, as presented in the khutbah, is to learn with reflection, teach others, seek deeper understanding, and keep learning throughout life. We were also reminded to practice taqwa in our speech, relationships, and daily choices.

  1. What does a pure heart look like in the way we treat other people?
  2. When can wanting something become unhealthy greed?
  3. What is one beneficial thing you could learn and teach someone else this week?
