Keep doing good amid corruption
“We should aid one another upon doing that which is good.”
Believers must consistently do good, even amid widespread corruption, because sincere good deeds bring Allah’s mercy, forgiveness, protection, and eventual success.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Warns against despair and abandoning good when corruption becomes widespread.
- Presents steadfast reformers as the “strangers” promised good news.
- Explains that good deeds bring success, mercy, reward, forgiveness, and protection from hardship.
- Shows through prophetic examples that small acts can earn forgiveness and paradise.
- Urges believers not to imitate wrongdoing and to remain upright regardless of others’ behavior.
- Emphasizes good treatment of family, cooperation in righteousness, and patience.
- Concludes with supplications for steadfastness, forgiveness, and communal well-being.
In the khateeb's words
“even the morsel of food that you put into the wife or put into the mouth of your wife it is a sadaqah.”
“we should aid one another upon doing that which is good and that we should cooperate with one another upon doing that which is good”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us to keep doing good, even when the world around us seems full of corruption or wrongdoing. We should not follow evil simply because other people are doing it; instead, we should become people who open doors to goodness and close doors to harm. Every good deed can be charity, including kind words, a smile, helping others, removing something harmful from the road, and caring for our families. Even small sincere actions may bring Allah’s mercy, forgiveness, or relief from hardship. Our home is one of the most important places to practice goodness consistently.
- What is one small good deed you can do today that someone else may not notice?
- How can our family become keys of good for one another this week?
- When people around you act badly, how can you avoid copying them?
