Worldly wealth does not prove Allah's love
“All of our blessings are from Allah.”
Worldly wealth is a temporary blessing from Allah, not proof of divine love, so believers must reject arrogance, put Allah first, and remain grateful before hardship exposes their misplaced priorities.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces the Quranic story of a wealthy man with two gardens and emphasizes that all blessings come from Allah.
- Shows the man boasting about his wealth and status, harming himself through arrogance.
- Traces his assumption that wealth will last forever, his doubt about the Day of Judgment, and his mistaken belief that wealth proves Allah's love.
- Presents his friend's reminder to believe in Allah, prioritize divine obligations, and recognize that blessings can disappear instantly.
- Describes the destruction of the gardens and the man's regret, urging listeners to repent and put Allah first before calamity.
- Concludes by urging reflection on Quranic stories and praying for guidance, gratitude, youth, and oppressed communities.
In the khateeb's words
“All of our blessings are from Allah. And we should never forget this.”
“The same thing. That was supposed to be. His security system. Became his destruction system.”
“Till Allah takes your blessings away. For you to realize. That Allah comes first. Don't wait for a. Calamity. To come upon us. For us to realize. That we should put Allah. Before everything else.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah told the Quranic story of a wealthy man with two gardens who began to boast and assume his wealth would last forever. His friend reminded him that Allah created him, that blessings can disappear, and that wealth is not proof of Allah's love. When the gardens were ruined, the man regretted putting worldly things ahead of Allah. We can learn from this by being grateful, keeping our obligations to Allah first, and turning to the Quran for guidance before hardship forces us to wake up. We also prayed for guidance, our youth, and people facing oppression.
- What is one blessing you want to thank Allah for today?
- How can we put Allah first when school, work, or friends compete for our attention?
- What Quran story has helped you make a better choice?
