Character & conductFrom the masjid's own video, Dec 2, 2025.
Meet hostility with patience and character
“They must reflect the values that they claim.”
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Calls believers to taqwa and attentive response to reminders, framing Jumu'ah as an obligatory reminder.
- Explains Friday etiquette: silence, no phones or greetings, and seeking the first rows.
- Addresses Islamophobia and recent violence, condemning attacks and rejecting emotional retaliation.
- Uses Prophetic examples from Medina and Ta'if to teach forgiveness, compassion, restraint, and good character.
- Studies Yusuf in prison: he identifies Islam, argues against shirk, and then interprets dreams.
- Applies the lesson that every Muslim is a da'i who should represent Islam proudly and kindly.
- Warns that poor character can drive seekers away, urging Muslims to be good representatives.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“As for what you can't control, their hatred and their behavior, you can't control that. That is not in our hands.”
“Ultimately, it comes down to two things. Da'wah and good character.”
“Before you preach, a person must be credible. A person must be distinct. They must reflect the values that they claim.”
“show them the beauty of Islam pray with confidence act with confidence with good akhlaq and good example”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
Today the imam reminded us that Jumu'ah is a chance to listen carefully, remember Allah, and put what we learn into practice. He urged us to respond to hostility with patience, compassion, and good character, and he condemned violence. He described how the Prophet Muhammad showed gentleness and hope even when people treated him harshly. In the story of Prophet Yusuf, his fellow prisoners noticed his excellent character and came to him for help, giving him an opportunity to share his faith. The imam encouraged us, especially young people, to be confident in being Muslim and to show the beauty of Islam through our everyday behavior.
- What is one reminder from today that you want to practice this week?
- How could you respond kindly if someone misunderstood your faith?
- What could you do tomorrow to show honesty, patience, or generosity like the qualities described in Yusuf's story?
