For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah taught that hasad means resenting another person’s blessing, and it can damage our good deeds and relationships. Allah decides who receives each blessing, so we should trust His wisdom instead of comparing ourselves. When we admire someone, we should ask Allah to bless them and protect ourselves and our children with adhkar and supplication. It is fine to hope for a similar good blessing without wishing another person to lose theirs. The sermon ended by praising a man whose secret was a heart free from cheating and envy.

  1. When have you felt happy for someone else’s success, and what could you say to bless them?
  2. What good thing can you ask Allah for without wanting anyone else to lose theirs?
  3. How can our family protect privacy around a blessing while still being grateful?
