Loving the Sahaba strengthens your faith
“To have that love for Sahaba is a sign of Iman.”
Loving and following every Sahabi is a sign of sincere iman and a means of earning Allah’s pleasure and being gathered with the righteous.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Establishes the Sahaba as the best generation, honored by Allah and promised goodness.
- Explains their strong faith, sacrifice, obedience, character, and Allah’s pleasure with them.
- Argues that loving the Sahaba demonstrates love for the Prophet, while hating them threatens one’s iman.
- Urges Muslims to follow the Sahaba’s example and hope to be resurrected alongside them.
- Reiterates in Urdu that believers should respect the Sahaba, pray for them, and teach children to love them.
- Concludes with supplications, Quran recitation, a memorial for a deceased teacher, and a course announcement.
In the khateeb's words
“They are also role model for us. They are criterion for us.”
“If you want Allah love you, so love Sahaba. If you want the Prophet Muhammad to love you, so you have to love Sahaba, his companion.”
“Love every of the Sahabi. So love, to have that love for Sahaba is a sign of Iman.”
For the dinner table
Today the imam talked about the Sahaba, the Companions of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They were people who saw him, believed in him and died as believers. He explained that Allah tested their hearts, made faith beautiful to them, and said He is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. That is why we say radiyallahu anhu when we mention them. The imam taught that loving the Sahaba is a sign of real faith, and that the Prophet said whoever loves them does so out of love for him. He also told us that the early Muslims taught their children to love Abu Bakr and Umar the way they taught verses of the Quran, and that our job is to make dua for the Companions and try to be like them. If we follow them in goodness, we can hope that Allah will be pleased with us too and gather us with them in Jannah.
- Which Sahabi or Sahabiyah would you most like to meet in Jannah, and why?
- The Sahaba left their homes and businesses for Allah. What is one thing you could give up or do this week to please Allah?
- What do we say when we mention a Companion's name, and what does it mean?
