The Prophet’s example demands moral courage

The khutbah in 5 steps

  1. The Prophet is presented as humanity’s excellent example and the seal of the prophets.
  2. The Quran distinguishes prophetic authority from paternal control, management, and worship.
  3. Worship addresses transcendence, while the Prophet provides practical moral guidance.
  4. Muslims inherit responsibility to establish good and prevent wrongdoing.
  5. Following the Prophet requires moral courage toward public suffering and inward communal accountability.

The khutbah teaches that Muslims do not worship Prophet Muhammad; they honor him by following his example. Allah is transcendent, while the Prophet shows us how moral guidance can be lived in ordinary life. Following him means bringing honesty, dignity, and courage into our families, workplaces, and communities. It also means speaking up when people suffer, even when powerful people are involved. Finally, moral courage includes looking honestly at our own community and refusing to ignore wrongdoing simply because it comes from people close to us.

  1. What is one quality of the Prophet you would like to practice this week?
  2. When is it hard to speak up for what is right?
  3. How can we show courage while also being honest about our own mistakes?
