Moral character matters beyond optional worship
“The best way to invite people to Islam is to demonstrate a high standard of moral character based on the beautiful teachings of the Quran.”
True religious excellence requires high moral character alongside obligatory worship, because ethics shape both social relationships and one’s standing before Allah.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Opens with praise, testimony, and a Qur'anic warning about communities whose affluent people transgress.
- Explains that excellent character can raise a believer despite shortcomings in optional worship.
- Warns that harming neighbors can lead to Hell despite fasting and night prayer.
- Presents akhlaq as foundational alongside sound belief and correct worship.
- Concludes with announcements, prayers for the deceased and sick, prayers for Gaza and other regions, and congregational prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“the believer can reach the highest level in Al Jannah because of his akhlaaq even though if he is not doing that good in Ibadah”
“the lack of ibadah can be compensated by embracing the high moral character but the lack of akhlaq cannot be compensated by excelling in al-ibadah”
“the best way to invite people to islam is to demonstrate a high standard of moral character based on the beautiful teachings of the quran”
For the dinner table
The khutbah taught that good character, or akhlaq, is a central part of Islam alongside sound belief and worship. The speaker said a person may have shortcomings in optional worship yet still rise through excellent character, while harming others can undermine outward devotion. He especially warned against abusing neighbors and encouraged Muslims to make their conduct a living invitation to Islam. The khutbah ended with community announcements and prayers for the deceased, the sick, and people suffering in Gaza, Palestine, Sudan, and Syria.

- How can our family show Islam through our behavior?
