Use your blessings before they fade

“You will find yourself able to do things with the same amount of resources.”

The khateeb, at 26:51

In one sentence

Because every blessing is a temporary trust from Allah, believers should adopt a stewardship mindset and urgently invest their youth, wealth, health, free time, and life in worship and beneficial service, seeking barakah rather than simply more resources.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Frames maximizing blessings as complementary to avoiding waste and explains why mere use is insufficient.
  2. Grounds stewardship in humanity’s role as khalifa and responsibility to value and care for Allah’s gifts.
  3. Uses a portfolio metaphor to connect present choices with hereafter dividends and accountability.
  4. Applies “five before five” to youth, wealth, health, free time, and life, with examples involving Hajj, charity, worship, and productivity.
  5. Reframes maximization as barakah: doing more with existing resources rather than waiting for more.
  6. Concludes by urging listeners to resist procrastination, begin now, and ask Allah for knowledge, sincerity, and barakah.

For the dinner table

Allah has given each of us blessings, and the khateeb encouraged us to value them and use them with gratitude and care. He reminded us to make use of youth, wealth, health, free time, and life before those opportunities change or end. Our abilities and circumstances differ, but we can each use what we have to worship Allah and benefit others. Caring for our health and giving our families their rights are part of using our blessings well. We can ask Allah for barakah in what we already have and begin with small, sincere good deeds instead of waiting for more. Rather than putting everything off, we can make an intention and take a useful step today.

  1. What is one blessing you could use to help someone this week?
  2. What small good deed could you start with what you already have?
  3. How could we make time this week for learning, helping, resting, and being together?
