For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that our hearts need care, just as our homes and bodies need cleaning. A pure heart shapes our intentions and actions, and wealth or status cannot take its place before Allah. The khateeb focused on three sicknesses of the heart: envy, resentment, and arrogance. He encouraged us to trust Allah’s wisdom in what He gives, forgive others, and accept the truth with humility. Through the story of a man promised Paradise who carried no resentment or envy, he reminded us how much our inner lives matter. We can work on our hearts together by noticing these feelings, striving against them, and asking Allah to help us.

  1. What is one blessing you could thank Allah for when you feel jealous of someone else?
  2. What could help you let go of a grudge when someone has upset you?
  3. What would accepting correction with humility look like at home or school?
