Islam honors Jesus without worshipping him
“Islam is not a new religion.”
Islam honors Jesus and Mary as noble servants of Allah, affirms Jesus’s monotheistic message and miracles by Allah’s permission, and calls Muslims to respect all prophets and other faiths without exaggeration.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Recites Quranic passages about Mary, Zakariya, and the annunciation of Jesus.
- Explains Islam’s balanced honor of Jesus and Mary while rejecting divinity.
- Uses Adam’s creation and Jesus’s miracles to emphasize Allah’s sole power.
- Presents Jesus’s message as tawhid, confirmation of the Torah, and announcement of Ahmad.
- Describes Jesus’s protection and raising, then calls for prophetic love and respectful interfaith speech.
- Closes with prayers for faith, healing, mercy, and righteousness.
In the khateeb's words
“Islam honors him and his mother in the highest and most truthful way.”
“Creation does not require biological process. And Allah creates by His will and also His command.”
“Islam is not a new religion. but the continuation and the completion of the same divine guidance.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that Muslims love and honor Jesus, peace be upon him, as one of Allah’s greatest messengers. His miraculous birth and miracles show Allah’s power, and he called people to worship Allah alone. We also honor his mother, Maryam, for her truthfulness, faith, sincerity, and worship. The khateeb encouraged us to respect all the prophets and speak with wisdom and respect to people of other faiths. He reminded us that Jesus’s message included humility, mercy, compassion, repentance, and caring for what is inside our hearts.
- Which of Maryam’s qualities would you like to practice this week, and how?
- How would you explain to a friend why Muslims honor Jesus?
- What could showing mercy look like in our family tomorrow?
